Tourism & Hospitality

Zanzibar runs on visitors, and so does every destination like it. This course covers what makes guests come back and tell others — service that gets noticed, front office and housekeeping run to a standard, seasonal pricing and online channels, reviews handled well, and a business that stays profitable through the low season.

Outcomes

What you will be able to do

Not topics covered — things you will be able to do at work the week after.

  • Deliver service guests write about

Standards for the moments that decide a review — arrival, a problem, and departure.

  • Run the operation to a standard

Front office, reservations, and housekeeping that hold up when you are short-staffed in high season.

  • Price for the season

Set rates that fill rooms and tours across high and low season, and package an offer worth more than its parts.

  • Sell online and direct

Work with Booking.com, Airbnb, and tour platforms without giving away the margin, and build direct bookings alongside them.

  • Manage your reputation

Respond to reviews well, recover a bad experience before it is written up, and turn guests into referrals.

  • Meet the rules and host responsibly

Hygiene, health and safety, and licensing — plus tourism that leaves something behind in the community.

Curriculum

What the course covers

6 modules · 6 weeks · 2 live sessions per week. Open one to see what is inside it.

01Week 1 — The visitor economy

Who travels, what they are actually buying, and where the money in the chain ends up. Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania are the worked example; the economics hold for any destination.

02Week 2 — Guest experience

Service standards. The arrival and departure moments. Cultural awareness in both directions. Handling a complaint so the guest still leaves happy.

03Week 3 — Running the operation

Front office and reservations. Housekeeping standards and checklists. Food safety and hygiene. Health, safety, and security basics.

04Week 4 — Selling and pricing

Seasonal pricing and occupancy. Packaging stays and tours. Online travel agents and what their commission really costs. Building direct bookings.

05Week 5 — Reputation

Reviews on TripAdvisor, Google, and Booking.com. Responding to criticism without argument. Photographs and listings that match what guests find. Referrals and repeat guests.

06Week 6 — Running it as a business

Costing and margins. Staffing and rosters through the seasons. Licensing and compliance. Sustainable, community-minded tourism that lasts.

Questions

Questions people ask

Is this only for hotel owners?

No. It is written for anyone earning from visitors — guesthouses and hotels, restaurants and cafés, tour operators, guides and drivers, and staff who want to move up. The operations week leans toward accommodation; everything else applies across the board.

What is Skool and why do I need it?

Skool is the platform that hosts the course videos, materials, and community discussion. Creating an account is free and takes about two minutes. Payment and access are handled entirely by Skool.

What if I miss a live session?

Every session is recorded and posted in the community, so you can catch up in your own time and still ask questions afterwards.

Can I take this from outside Tanzania?

Yes — the courses are live online and open to students anywhere. Sessions run on East Africa Time (GMT+3) and every one is recorded, so joining from a different time zone costs you nothing but the live question-and-answer. Skool takes international cards and prices are shown in US dollars.

What language is the course taught in?

English, and all course materials are in English. Where everyone in a session happens to speak Swahili we will explain in it as well, but you never need Swahili to follow a course.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes — a Profix Companies certificate of completion once you finish the course and present your final project.

Can my organisation enrol several people?

Yes. Get in touch through the contact form or on WhatsApp and we will arrange group enrolment for teams.

Ready to give guests a reason to come back?
