Outcomes

What you will be able to do

Not topics covered — things you will be able to do at work the week after.

  • Test an idea before you spend on it

Talk to real customers, run a cheap experiment, and find out whether anyone will pay — before the savings are gone.

  • Describe your business on one page

Customers, offer, revenue, and costs set out clearly enough that you can see where the model breaks.

  • Price so the business survives

Work out your real costs, set a price with margin in it, and know the point at which you break even.

  • Win your first customers

A simple, repeatable way to find and close early customers without an advertising budget.

  • Set the business up properly

Registration and licensing, basic records, and keeping business money separate from personal money from day one.

  • Ask for money and be taken seriously

Know the funding options open to you, what a bank or funder will ask, and how to present the numbers.

Curriculum

What the course covers

6 modules · 6 weeks · 2 live sessions per week. Open one to see what is inside it.

01Week 1 — From idea to opportunity

Problem-first thinking. Spotting a real gap in your own market. Defining who the customer is and roughly how many of them there are.

02Week 2 — Testing before building

Customer interviews that do not just collect compliments. The smallest offer you can sell. Cheap experiments and reading the result honestly.

03Week 3 — The business model

The business model canvas. Revenue streams and cost structure. Unit economics and break-even, worked through on your own numbers.

04Week 4 — Getting your first customers

Writing a value proposition. Pricing. Sales conversations for people who do not think of themselves as sellers. Low-budget marketing that works locally.

05Week 5 — Setting up the business

Registration and licensing, worked through in detail for Tanzania and Zanzibar and with a checklist for finding the equivalent in your own country. Basic record keeping. Separating business and personal money. Your first hire.

06Week 6 — Money and growth

Funding options from savings and family to SACCOS, banks, grants, and investors. Building a pitch. Deciding what to do next — and what not to.

Questions

Questions people ask

Do I need a business idea before I join?

No. The first two weeks are about finding and testing an idea, so you can arrive with nothing more than the intention to start. If you already have a business running, the same weeks work as a hard look at whether the model holds.

What is Skool and why do I need it?

Skool is the platform that hosts the course videos, materials, and community discussion. Creating an account is free and takes about two minutes. Payment and access are handled entirely by Skool.

What if I miss a live session?

Every session is recorded and posted in the community, so you can catch up in your own time and still ask questions afterwards.

Can I take this from outside Tanzania?

Yes — the courses are live online and open to students anywhere. Sessions run on East Africa Time (GMT+3) and every one is recorded, so joining from a different time zone costs you nothing but the live question-and-answer. Skool takes international cards and prices are shown in US dollars.

What language is the course taught in?

English, and all course materials are in English. Where everyone in a session happens to speak Swahili we will explain in it as well, but you never need Swahili to follow a course.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes — a Profix Companies certificate of completion once you finish the course and present your final project.

Can my organisation enrol several people?

Yes. Get in touch through the contact form or on WhatsApp and we will arrange group enrolment for teams.
