Outcomes

What you will be able to do

Not topics covered — things you will be able to do at work the week after.

  • Explain the principles clearly

Riba, gharar, and maysir, and the risk-sharing ethic underneath them — well enough to explain to a customer or a colleague.

  • Work with the core contracts

Murabaha, ijara, mudaraba, musharaka, salam, and istisna — what each is for, and where each is misapplied in practice.

  • Choose the right financing for a need

Match a business requirement — stock, equipment, property, working capital — to the structure that genuinely fits it.

  • Understand takaful and sukuk

How cooperative insurance differs from conventional cover, and what a sukuk actually is behind the label.

  • Use digital finance properly

Mobile money, wallets, and payment rails — East Africa leads the world on these — and what they change for a small business anywhere.

  • Judge a new product before you sign

Assess crypto, buy-now-pay-later, and digital lending offers against Shariah principles and plain consumer risk.

Curriculum

01Week 1 — Foundations

The prohibition of riba, gharar, and maysir. Risk-sharing and asset backing. The ethics that shape every product that follows, and how the industry got here.

02Week 2 — The core contracts

03Week 3 — Islamic banking in practice

Deposit and financing products. Shariah governance and supervisory boards. How Islamic windows operate inside conventional banks, and what is available in Tanzania today.

04Week 4 — Takaful and sukuk

Cooperative insurance and how it differs from conventional cover. Sukuk structures, what they fund, and how they are used for infrastructure and business growth.

05Week 5 — FinTech and digital finance

Mobile money, wallets, and payment rails. Digital lending, crowdfunding, and agent banking. How Shariah-compliant finance is being delivered digitally.

06Week 6 — Judgement and the future

Assessing crypto, buy-now-pay-later, and new digital products against Shariah principles and consumer risk. Regulation and consumer protection. Choosing finance for your own business.

Questions

Questions people ask

Do I need a background in finance or Arabic?

Neither. Every term is introduced in plain English as it comes up, with worked examples. The course suits finance and banking staff, business owners looking for Shariah-compliant funding, and anyone serving customers who need it.

What is Skool and why do I need it?

Skool is the platform that hosts the course videos, materials, and community discussion. Creating an account is free and takes about two minutes. Payment and access are handled entirely by Skool.

What if I miss a live session?

Every session is recorded and posted in the community, so you can catch up in your own time and still ask questions afterwards.

Can I take this from outside Tanzania?

Yes — the courses are live online and open to students anywhere. Sessions run on East Africa Time (GMT+3) and every one is recorded, so joining from a different time zone costs you nothing but the live question-and-answer. Skool takes international cards and prices are shown in US dollars.

What language is the course taught in?

English, and all course materials are in English. Where everyone in a session happens to speak Swahili we will explain in it as well, but you never need Swahili to follow a course.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes — a Profix Companies certificate of completion once you finish the course and present your final project.

Can my organisation enrol several people?

Yes. Get in touch through the contact form or on WhatsApp and we will arrange group enrolment for teams.
